Checking in with Narelle

By December 5, 2020Uncategorized

This year, we held a Christmas Luncheon to honour all our volunteers and we had the pleasure of interviewing Narelle about her top volunteer moments.

She has dedicated her time in taking care of outpatients at the hospital and assisted in walking fitness groups at the shopping centre for nearly 2 and a half years.

Narelle’s favourite memory as a volunteer was connecting with patients who needed a little cheer in their day… it’s the simple act of kindness that goes a long way.

“I’m quite a talker! I meet with the patients and have a chat with them to make light of situations,”

There’s nothing better than becoming a part of a community that supports one another, whether it’s with the staff or patients.

“It’s an atmosphere where everybody has fun. We’re even making fun of each other,”

“Some patients who are standing and waiting even join in the banter with the staff!” she mentions.

Forming positive relationships ignites a sense of purpose for Narelle which plays a huge factor in why she recommends volunteering.

Without the sense of community that our volunteers offer, the Foundation wouldn’t be as strong as it is today.
